Pioneering Latina, Kiki Melendez “shakes up” the film industry with her feature docu-comedy the “Journey of a Female Comic”.
Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in the United States, Kiki Melendez surpasses the barriers and obstacles her Latino constituents have faced while obtaining actor roles in the posh cinematic world of Hollywood.
“The Journey of a Female Comic” chronicles the life of Kiki Melendez as she navigates the cutthroat world of comedy, business, friendships, culture, and beyond, all through the voice of an uproarious comedienne, who has been taking names and turning heads, just like her hardworking immigrant mother taught her. From a tiny town in the Dominican Republic, to Hollywood, follow the ‘Princesa of Bel Air’ through her trials and tribulations as you laugh your way through this quintessential story of “struggling in luxury,” as Kiki herself would put it.
The film includes candid interviews with Hollywood Latino stars such as Edward James Olmos (Dexter), Esal Morales (Criminal Minds), and Jacob Vargas (Heaven is for Real), Nadine Velasquez (Major Crimes), Maria Conchita Alonzo (Return of Babylon), and many others.
The docu-comedy has been making a stellar presence with outstanding reviews from the media and its audience – on opening night, ticket shows were sold out at Universal City Walk theater and in San Diego. The film will also open in Puerto Rico this July and the Dominican Republic in August!
